Q.Holy Basil Seedling Droopy After Report In Uk Winter Indoor

Zone London | dhruva added on December 8, 2024 | Answered

2-3 weeks ago the baby had still bent neck so repotted to anchor better the roots. After this the new pair of leaves grown. Early last week had some sunny noon albeit winter cold temp outside so had put baby nr window sil to get sunlight. 2 days later, found tip of the bottom most (1st most)leaves turned brown so felt may be sunlight felt harsh so, given 2nd time in the week somewhat water but not much to drain. Temp was colder outside & rainy week it was so, one night kept ~10cm far from room heater and also felt bit suspicious of overwatered. Next morning found it droopy but still put back again whenver used room temp keeping in mind the bottom of the plastic glass wet so no need watering more. Sunlight is hard to provide this season so 2days ago learnt about plant grow LED lights n today recieved a full spectrum with white or growth(green red blue white mix) mode supported light but spotted today the stem also getting brownished 🙁 I dont know what might went wrong and soltuion to recover, so thought to ask here. Attached fresh pic. Please help me save my seedling _/|\_ Thanks a lot in advance!!!!

Unfortunately, this is what is known as damping off. It is caused by soil born fungi, and made worse by wet soil. I would use fresh soil, and let them dry out down to about halfway down your container. I would make sure that those have drainage holes in the bottom, since not having them would provide the conditions for the fungi.

Here is an article that can help:

Here is another for seedling care:

Thanks a lot, @bushDoctor, for ruling out exact problem.
I just repotted after reading shared articles about dampning condition.
While repotting, i noticed the soil was soggy n blocked tiny drainage holes at bottom of the plastic cup.
Probably the soil held water which damaged the roots of the baby.

It was sad to see a very fine white end of the main/long roots only survived.

I changed the type of soil, repotted & wet the soil around.
I also put baby into switched off microwave for overnight - thinking it would be the warmest area all the time, because some people use this technique to ferment the batter

I wish the strand of fine white root will become healthy.

Thanks a lot, @BushDoctor _/|\_ for your quick and kind helps!!!
