Holly Bush Problem

I have a Holly Bush planted anout 6″ in front of my home, that’s been there for at least 50 years. For the last 2 years our area (upstate Eastern NY outside of Albany) has received above normal amounts of rain.We are currently 12″ above normal ytd. 3 1/2 out of every week have been rainy and in the upper 60’s. My Holly Bush is looking HORRIBLE…it’s leaves are all Brown and withered. I know it’s because of all the water but How do I keep the water away from drowning it? Should I cut it way down or just give it up and dig it up and plant something that will survive the climate change? Presidlent Trump may not believe in Climate Change but I do.

Though most Hollies can tolerate some wet conditions, extreme amounts or soil that simply can’t drain away the rain water fast enough can result in root rot and fungus issues.

Trim away and prune up the Holly. It may recover, but you will need to wait it out.
