Q.Hilo Beauty Elephant Ear

Zone Austin, Texas | ArachnoMaster added on March 8, 2016 | Answered

Is my Hilo Beauty elephant ear plant dead? I bought it in packaging. When I opened it, I noticed the brown bulb with brown roots (not pink or fleshy) and a cut, black central stem. I decided to plant it. Now I’m thinking. And worried. The package even said “Guaranteed to Grow.” Sure hope they are right…

The description sounds like a normal Elephant Ear bulb.
As long as the bulb was firm with not soft spots or rotting, it is likely a healthy dormant bulb, just waiting to be planted and will began to grow with proper planting, moisture and light conditions.
