Hillside Planting In Clay Soil

Anonymous added on September 19, 2011 | Answered

I live in Riverside, CA -- very hot in the summer and dry in the winter. I have a bank that is terrible clay soil. I need some suggestions other than the Myoporum that I currently have that isn't that happy. Rosemary and a low acacia shrub do well, but I want some other alternative ground covers that are happy and green. Lantana perhaps? Any suggestions appreciated.

First, I would suggest improving your soil. Here is an article that you may find helpful: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/special/organic/compost-for-organic-gardens.htm

As for groundcovers, this article will help with suggestions for covering the sloped area: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/special/slope-hill/hill-ground-cover.htm
