Hibiscus Soil Conditions

What is the proper soil pH for hibiscus in northern lower Michigan? Is river stone mulch harmful to hibiscus?

A pH of 5.5 to 7.8 is okay, but slightly acidic soil (6 to 7) is best. River stone mulch is not harmful, but keep it at least 2-3 inches from the plant.
