Hibiscus Plant Pests

The plant hibiscus shows no sign of spider mites, but the leaves are chewed almost off like a ravenous worm ate it. However, no worms or bugs detected in the morning. I see most destruction. What can I do? Could a worm do this?

The larval grubs of garden butterflies can chomp their way through many a hibiscus leaf, but their harm is mostly visual. Watch closely for them, especially in the early morning, and if you discover them in the early stage, you may be able to pick them off. In addition, Japanese beetles, slugs and snails enjoy feasting on these plants.
