Hibiscus Plant

I had a hibiscus plant in a pot all last summer and it did beautifully. When the weather started to get colder, I took it indoors and it did very well with new growth all winter. The weather has gotten warm and I put it outside again. I started noticing that the leaves are losing color and becoming white. I moved it back inside and it is getting new growth but I was wondering what is wrong with it and can I put it back outside. The temps have been in the 80’s during the day and down to the 50’s at night. Thank you.

Most likely this is sunscald, which is like sunburn in plants. This typically happens to plants that are not acclimated, but can happen to new growth on plants that are in locations that are a bit too sunny or warm for them. If possible, move the plant to a location that is not quite so intense or you can try to shade it some by placing a large umbrella (or something similar) over it. It should correct itself over time as the plant acclimates itself.
