hibiscus outside in winter

I read about how the plant will die if temperatures go below freezing. In our area we do get some freezing temperatures in the winter, so can I cover the plants or what do you suggest I do so they don’t die from freezing?

Hardy hibiscus plants need little care over winter and are hardy to zone 5 with no protection outdoors, though you may add mulch if you like. The tropical varieties are the ones that require growth indoors over winter. In the event of heavy frost, you can choose to cover your plant, though it should be ok (as long as it’s a hardy type).
