Hibiscus Leaves Like Lace After Bloom

For two years in a row, my Red Hibiscus has blossomed beautifully but mid-way the leaves begin to be eaten by something which makes them look like lace. No other nearby plants are affected this way. What is causing this and how can I prevent it? The plant is directly in the ground and is in a mostly sunny bed.
