hibiscus in the winter, pot or indoors?

When I got my hibiscus at the store, I was told that it was a bush and can be planted outdoors in the ground. Is that right or wrong? I live in Wichita, KS. will it grow in this zone or not??

It is right, provided that you have the hardy variety. Hibiscus may be tropical or hardy, both of which are considered perennials; however, in the wrong environment (such as extreme cold), tropical hibiscus plants will almost certainly die. If it is a hardy hibiscus, then it can stay outside to Zone 5. If it is a tropical hibiscus, it must be brought in for the winter.
