Hibiscus Coloring

Why is my hibiscus a pale yellow green instead of dark lush green? I live in Mesa, AZ and have sandy soil. Also, what ferti;izer do you recommend?

Hibiscus leaves may turn yellow because of either underwatering or overwatering, as well as several other problems:
