Hibiscus Bud Drop

I live in Oklahoma where it has been very hot all summer. Record set for most over 100 degree days. Many days were over 105. My gardenia plant looks great. I’ve had it in a large pot for over 15 years. I changed the pot a few years ago. In winter I put it in a sunny area and in summer I place it on the patio step where it has thrived. I have about 50-60 buds on it and they look great but won’t bloom and fall off after awhile. Is it too hot for the plant to flower?

It is possible that it is too hot. Moving the plant to a more shady location or watering more frequently (even several times a day) will help.

It may also be thrips. These pests attack the bad of flower buds and the buds will fall off due to the damage. This article will help you if you suspect them:
