Many types of compost are available in gardening stores and will be fine for a potted hibiscus. If available, choose one that is labeled for containers or for trees and shrubs, and apply according to package directions. The only caution is to make sure you use compost that is “finished” (meaning it has been aged and heated enough to kill weed seeds) and if you get a non-commercial variety (such as from a neighbor or local farmer), make sure it was not made with herbicide-treated plant parte.
