Q.Hibiscus Shrubs

Anonymous added on January 21, 2014 | Answered

I have several hibiscus plants outside, about 7 feet tall. We recently had a freeze here in Fl. and I had them covered, but they sre all brown now. Can I wait till spring to cut them back, or do you think they are gone? We do plan on cutting them back in the spring. They were beautiful, and I hope I didn’t lose them.

Yes, it is better to wait until spring for pruning, which will also help protect the plant from further damage should cold weather strike again. This article should help you with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/hibiscus/tips-for-pruning-hibiscus-plants-when-to-prune-hibiscus.htm This article will help you with caring for it with the damage: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/environmental/tips-for-saving-cold-damaged-plants.htm
