Help With Transplant Of A Grafted Panicle Hydrangea Plant

This 5-foot tree has been destroyed on one side by the deer. My desire is to move it within our fenced backyard. I am in zone 6, Dayton, Ohio. Is it too late to uproot it now?

You can transplant it now. The best time is when it is dormant so it has less transplant shock but early spring and late fall are always good times as well. The root system is tiny, shallow and fibrous so try not to disturb the roots
much. On a newly planted paniculata, the roots are about 4" deep only. The should be slightly deeper after 5 years but they will also spread wider too. Get help moving it. Prepare the new location first if possible and move it when it is not hot or windy. Water deeply the night before the move.
