Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comNikki, thanks for your previous answer about digging up my tulip bulbs after the foliage yellows. Here in Oklahoma (zone 7) the foliage will usually die back by mid to late May. This year we’ve been warmer than usual, so it may be earlier this year. After I dig up the bulbs, how should I store them until it’s time to chill them? Or should I be chilling them until next November?

If you haven’t read these yet, the following articles should be of some help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/bgen/storing-bulbs-in-south.htm [1]

Pre-chilling is simple. You just need to put them in a cool place for 12 weeks (in a papper bag or wrapped in newspaper). A vegetable bin in a fridge or an unheated garage works well, just as long as temps stay below 45F and the bulbs are not allowed to freeze solid.
