Q.Help With A Solanum Laxum (Potato Vine)

Zone Hertfordshire | vanya2025 added on April 28, 2025 | Answered

Hi all, My favourite tree has not yet grown any foliage or bloomed anything at all, whereas last few years it already had around the start of April! In Uk we had some warm spells in March but a late frost which i believe has stalled it, but i can’t help but think this isn’t going to come back now?! ANy ideas any one? When i scratch the branches most of them are green under the bark.. only the dead twiggy looking branches aren’t. Could this still bloom as it’s amazing when it does!! Thank you!

I do see signs of growth, and you have found that it is living already with the scratch test. That's a good start. I wouldd prune out some of that growth though. Anything that crosses and anything dead should be removed. Growth that is too compact can be a Perfect environment for bacterial or fungal growth. You want to thin that out some. Maybe it won't flower as it should this year, but it should bounce back after a good thinning in the fall.
