Q.Help! My Christmas Tree Is Not Drinking Any Water! How Can I Save It And Keep It Green Until Christmas?

Zone 29707 | Anonymous added on November 29, 2022 | Answered

We bought a beautiful 16-foot Christmas tree at a local farm. They said it had been cut within a few days of our purchase. I used a brand new chain saw blade and made a fresh cut about 4″ above the original cut. We then stood the tree up within 2 hours and filled with water. Problem is that the tree has now been up for 2 days and the water level has not dropped. We are still 30 days until Christmas, and I fear we will have a brown tree! Please help.. Do you think I can drill some holes around the trunk under the water line to help it drink? The tree is so large that I cannot take it down to try another fresh cut.

Do not panic just yet. Dry trees may take a couple days to start taking up water. Cold trees also may take some time before drawing water. Then if it still isn't taking up water, you can try drilling holes in the sides. If it becomes dry and brittle, it is time to take it down.
