Help Identify Lawn Weed

This little weed grows low to the ground. It has tiny purple flowers and tiny, tiny thorns. It has spread over my yard over the past 3 years. Very painful when stepped on or try to pull it up.

I would suggest you take a recently dug example to your local agricultural extension office for identification.
