dead man’s fingers in the lawn

I just moved and my new home has dead man’s fingers in the lawn, not on any trees that I can see. Should I still be concerned? These are growing semi-rampant in the front yard of my new house. There are no trees in this area of the yard. There is a maple tree at the street, and no mushrooms around or on it. What can/should I do? Thank you!

Yes, you are right to be concerned.
It’s likely they are growing over the roots of the Maple.
Consulting a professional Arborist is a good option to determine the exact cause.
If the tree is owned by the city you may want to contact your local County Extension Office.
