pruning large magnolia

I have a large magnolia tree in garden and would like info on pruning. All of the garden has been left to go out of control and the magnolia in question also has branches going into garden wall and crossing in many places. I need to know the best way to tackle pruning and when.

Many thanks geoff

Pruning is something you are going to want to do very carefully and judiciously because Magnolias are not the fastest growers nor do they heal from pruning cuts well. They should be pruned as little as possible. You can prune deciduous magnolias after their flowers fade.
