Q.Has my cactus got some sort of fungus? HELP!

Zone LS28 7PG | AliceWilks1997 added on August 18, 2019 | Answered

Please help! I received this cactus for my birthday, and am still in the process of trying to identify the type of cactus it is?
I just noticed today that one of the sections has gone very soft and has some sort of white dot trail on it but am unsure of what it is and how to treat it? I have a feeling it could be a fungal infection maybe but nothing like this has happened before. Does anyone know what I could do to save it before it could possibly spread.
I’ve uploaded a picture of the cactus its self and the soft big as well.

Cacti are very hard to pin down into classification. Most have very similar care. It is certainly a fungal infection, though.

I would make sure to give this bright light. Also, make sure to only water when the soil is completely dry. Overwatering is the most common cause for this.

You will need a fungicide to treat the cactus with. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/info/using-fungicides-in-garden.htm
