Harvesting Cushaw Sqaush

When should I harvest my cushaw squash. I planted one seed in my garden for kicks for my three little boys. Never dreamed it would actually produce! There is one squash on the vine that is ENORMOUS! Didnt know if I should just leave it on the vine or if it would start to rot if I left it too long. Thanks!

Pumpkins can be harvested as soon as the stem begins to dry and the skin becomes too hard to pierce with a fingernail. Because cold weather can damage pumpkins, they should be harvested before the first frost.
