Q.Large Hardy Tropical Trees

Anonymous added on May 24, 2014 | Answered

What large tropical trees can I plant in California’s Central Valley that will withstand the wind, heat (summer) and frost (winter), other than palms? I purchased some banana trees but the wind is breaking the leaves, and did I mention I have no shade either. Thanks.

It's difficult to find something other than palms if you're looking for something tropical. I would take a look at Windmill Palms. They are pretty hardy, can take abuse and look nice. Here are some other suggestions: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/cold-hardy-tropicals.htm
