Hardy Hibiscus

Question

I have had a “Lord Baltimore” hardy hibiscus for 5+ years. It is potted and placed in a sunny spot. I feed it Miracle Gro and keep it watered. My concern is that I only get about one flower a day. Why is that? Oh yes, zone 7.

Hi, I am a newbie to gardening and I live in Central Florida. In my yard all varieties of hibiscus are hardy, thriving, and get several blooms, although at different times of the year. My thought is that you need to give you plant the same conditions as my hibiscus. That is, allow more room for the roots, if it is root bound. Give it a bit of sand, since I have sandy soil. Give it a bit of humidity, since that is what we have most of the year here. Extra light and sun will always be appreciated by any blooming plant.

Also, all hibiscus will benefit from a pruning and the cuttings will grow by simply plunging them into the soil.

I usually don’t need to fertilize any of my hibiscus. You might be overfeeding yours and developing more growth than flowers.
