Hard pruning hedge

We have trimmed the 6m long hedge in front garden to 2m high but the hedge is still 30cms thick with little leaf growth on the front. My client would like the privet hedge cut back away from his lounge window to let in more light but my fear is this will only leave a wood facia that may take a year to recover or not at all. What would you recommend?

If the center of the shrubs have had die back, you certainly will be left with twigs.
It is best to prune overgrown shrubs in thirds. Take 1/3 at a time.
