Hard freeze

We had a hard freeze here in Houston two nights in a row, and my ponytail palm didn’t make it. The leaves are dark and limp. Can I save it?

It is hard to tell, but your plant may survive. With frozen plants, it’s best not to prune right away, because that could damage the plant further and you could remove parts of the plant that are still alive.

Instead, the best option is to wait till spring and see if the plant starts growing new leaves again. You can then remove the dead leaves. If it doesn’t grow, you can cut the trunk back, and it may grow back from the roots.
