Hanging Pots

I have a very long front porch that can accomodate 12 hanging pots. My problem is this porch gets no sun. I would like a flowering plant that cascades just a little. I tried impatiens but there was always a mess on the porch from the flowers drying up and falling off. And with 12 pots, I found myself constantly sweeping off the porch. I always like to plant some kind of ivy in each pot to hang down. What ivy does best in shade? My back porch gets all the sun and I have five pots hanging there. Can I use the same flower in front and back? I haven’t lived in Tennessee very long and am having trouble finding plants and shrubs that will thrive. I’m on a mountain top and the nights can get pretty chilly even in summer. Appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

The article below will present you with many choices for your hanging pots – refer to the section for “shade plants for hanging baskets”. Fuchsia’s, for example, have a bit of the cascade feel you are looking for. As for ivy, English Ivy is a shade loving ivy that might work nicely. Click on each link in the aforementioned section and look at each plant’s growing requirements, some of the varieties listed might work well in both a sunny and shady locations.
