Grubs in Zucchini Stems

I keep getting grubs in the main stems of my zucchini and other squash plants. What are they and how can I control them without using a pesticide?

I sprinkle about a tablespoon of sulfur in the ground where I plant the seed. I never have squash borers since doing so.
