Growing Zoysia Grass in Central Texas

We recently moved to an area of central Texas and the property is very sandy (called sugar sand around here). We’d like to have some sort of grass in the area immediately around the house. Most folks say St. Augustine will die, Bermuda will maybe work but won’t really becoem well established. The sand layer is very deep while we do get a couple frosts over the winter months, they usually don’t last for more than a few days. This past winter was an exception (18-degrees). Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.

Zoysia should work where you are. You may also want to look at Bahia grass as well. Here is more information on it:
