Q.Growing vegetables

Zone Cairo, Egypt | Anonymous added on March 2, 2019 | Answered

Hey, I am a beginner when it comes to planting stuff so I want to ask if I can grow vegetables like tomatoes and peppers while using compost as the only source of nutrients for the plants, without using synthetic fertilizers. I mean, will my plants suffer deficiencies, or is it okay ?

I had a neighbor who had good results with a mixture of 50% compost, 50% topsoil. Too much organic matter can cause problems, however. Compost doesn't have all the nutrients your plants need, especially nitrogen. The following article has more detail. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/planting-in-pure-compost.htm
