Growing Sceletium Tortuosum from seeds

Hi there!

So ive recently acquired 20 seeds of the sceletium tortuosum plant, and I want to germinate and grow them. I’ve looked around online for in-depth instructions on how to grow these seeds but most of the instructions aren’t very specific and I want to try gather more information on this topic before germinating these seeds because I only have one shot at this. Are you perhaps able to help me? Here are the questions i have:

1. How warm must i keep these seeds while they are germinating? I live in cape town and It obviously isn’t a Karoo climate.

2. Iv’e bought “Germination mix” from the nursary, it seems to be made of peat, sand, and Perlite. Will this be okay for seed germination?

3. How much do i water them? Iv’e read they must stay damp but how damp exactly? And is it correct that i should store the seed tray inside of a clear plastic bag to retain moisture?

I would not recommend keeping them in a bag for very long, as this will promote mold. This will, potentially kill your new seedlings. You can keep them there until they germinate but after you should remove it. Your potting mix will be just fine. When you water, use a light spray bottle as this will make sure you don’t have extra water sitting in the soil. The soil needs to remain just barely moist. There doesn’t appear to be a whole lot out there on the care of this.
