Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI tried growing Japanese Maple from hardwood cuttings this past December and succeeded to grow them in my home-made plant propagation system. I can see the leaves sprouting in the aquarium I used for my plant propagation system. I am not sure what to do next? When do I re-plant these sprouting Japanese Red Maple into other pots and when do I need to take them out from the plant propagation system? Will highly appreciate if someone can advise me on the path to follow?

Once you see active growth, you can check for roots. You want a pretty healthy root system before you put them into pots on their own. Normally if they are growing on their own, they should have enough roots, but it is always wise to check before moving them. I can’t give a hard and fast rule for a healthy root system, but if you think about other plants and what they look like when growing normally, this should be a good guide.
