Growing Fig Tree

I have a new fig tree. Should the small nubs or figs be picked off to let the tree grow without using the energy going into the fig?

I find no research about disbudding figs their first year. It stands to reason that if there is no fruit the plant would put all its energy into root and foliage growth. Figs will drop fruit naturally if the load is stressing the plant. (You could “split the middle”, and remove all but a few fruits!)
