Growing Cauliflower

When you say to tie the cauliflower in your article, what do you mean, like where to tie it and how tight? This is my first year trying to grow it and I want it to come out right. Someone told me to clip the first floret head I see to make it grow larger; is that true?

You need to tie the leaves over the head to blanch it. Do not cut the floret. This will cause the plant to grow a scattered shaped head instead of a tight head.
