Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comHi,
I planted a sycamore tree seed (from the tree at sycamore gap from robin hood prince of thieves) in my parents garden, with a bunch of strawberries.
To my amazement it’s actually growing.. ? (normally I am the dark destroyer of anything Green) .
How can I move it out of my parents Strawberry tub, and into a bigger pot / the garden, where it will thrive.
Am I best leaving it until after the summer, when it has stopped it’s growth spurt?
Or doing it now before the roots take hold?
Will I kill it? Its probably the first thing I’ve ever managed to grow from seed in all my 34 years! ?
Thanks for your time,
Chris

First off, great job! I also love sycamore trees. I’ve added some links that should help. Mainly, you want to put it through the least amount of stress as possible during transplanting so avoid hot, dry seasons. Spring and fall are always best for transplanting. But this is just a little baby tree, that could be easily damaged out on it’s own. It’s not going to become the tree from Robin Hood overnight. You may want to consider transplanting it to a pot for awhile or delaying the move until next year. Either way, when you do move it, dig widely around it to get all the roots or as much of the roots as possible. While it’s young and small putting a tomato cage or chicken wire cage around it, will help protect it. Good luck!
