Q.Growing And Caring For Epiphyllum Cactus (orcid Cactus )

Zone van alstyne tex | Anonymous added on July 18, 2024 | Answered

when i was living in ct i had many orchid cactus, then moving to tex i lost all of them the first year. weather was the cause mostly. i am starting a new garden and will be growing them indoors during the year. and through the year i will grow them under a porch. My question is this what kind of soil do i need to grow them successfully. if i buy cutting how long should i expect before i get flowers, would it be better to get rooted plants. i have seen at a company called esty they have both cuttings and plants.. is there a place that i can trust to get good plants and not pay a foreign for. i will be looking to buy about 10 plants. thanks for all your help.

They do best grown in a quick-draining potting soil amended with peat and sand (not beach sand; it has too much salt). Or you can use three parts potting soil with one part pumice or perlite. Other sources say you can use orchid bark mix. Water with bottled water instead of tap water. Rooted plants will flower sooner than a cutting, which has to grow roots and get established. We don't make vendor recommendations but Etsy is a place where anyone can offer plants, crafts, etc. They are typically individual hobbyists. You may want to look for reputable plant nurseries to buy your rooted plants.
