Not growing tomatoes and cucumbers together is a bit of advice that really only applies if you are growing in a greenhouse. It is because they need different environments. Cucumbers like higher humidity which can negatively affect tomatoes by attracting unwanted fungus.

In an open garden, this is not an issue. Tomatoes and cucumbers can be planted near each other just fine.
