grow light plants put outside

After growing pumpkins and peppers inside under grow lights (looked great), I put them in the garden. Three days later the leaves turned white and withered. If I put them in my unheated greenhouse before the garden, everything was fine. Does this mean that all grow light plants have to be hardened in the greenhouse before going in the garden?

I recommend hardening off all your plants that are grown under grow lights.
