Yes, the pods are seeds. Since iris grown from seeds often don’t look like the parent, and also they take 2 or 3 seasons to bloom, home growers usually plant or propagate them from rhizome divisions.
Growing them from seed has to be done in a certain way, too. However, if you want to explore the possibilities, you should try.
