Q.Grasshoppers invading yard. HELP

Zone 35083. Zone 7 b | Anonymous added on September 19, 2019 | Answered

Grasshoppers are all over my flowers, they are eating all over the Canna leaves. I thought about getting a couple of chickens, would that help? Or what do you recommend I spray them with? I tried liquid 7 spray, that didn’t help and left my plants leaves white from the spray.

Control this time of year when the grasshoppers are mature is difficult. An infestation in fall indicates a likely problem next spring since the grasshoppers lay eggs in the soil in autumn. When they are young, control measures are more effective. What follows contains organic and pesticide control measures. If you can, identify which type of grasshopper has invaded. There are several bug ID sites on the web.

The US Southeast suffers from the eastern lubber grasshopper. To see pictures and control information on this species, read this article: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/orn/lubber.htm
