Newer varieties of tall fescue can compete with bluegrass and remain an equal part of the lawn. Some older varieties may not keep up with the fescue. Also, fescue is more sensitive to damage, so if the lawn recieves high foot traffic and wear, the bluegrass may eventually take over.
