Gardenia Shrub (Large)

Question

I hope you can help. I have a large Gardenia shrub. We had a very unusual winter with lots of snow and cold. The snow caused the bush to spread open. I need to know if I can cut it back or tie it together? It looks like it is turning brown in the middle, though I had a huge amount of blooms. It gets plenty of sun, so it is really big. I want to save and slow its growth a little.
