Q.Good Red Raspberry For Hot Humid South

Zone Brazoria, Tx 77422 | Anonymous added on November 10, 2021 | Answered

Hello, you don’t list Dorman Red Raspberry as being good for Zone 9? We have grown it several times here in Zone 9 (Houston, Texas area) with good success. Any reason why you don’t list it? Just asking, not trying to be offensive or anything. Just trying to find us a good red raspberry. I planted 6 Caroline Reds, in summer heat 3 months ago but only have 2 left. I have tried a couple other red raspberry plant that have since died. It is probably critical that I plant them any time except Summer.

I notice it is listed in the zone 8 gardening article; perhaps it was listed as only hardy to zone 8. A Texas extension article says raspberries don't grow well in Texas conditions, so that is probably why you have so much trouble. Have you tried calling your local Extension agent to see which raspberry varieties grow well in your area?
