Q.Golden Rain Tree – When Container Grown For 1 Year Then Put Out In Soil, Do I Water It Once A Month For The First Year?
I have grown two before and only watered them once a month or once a week for the first year per an expert. I lost one whose roots were eaten by a gopher and died. This one I grew in a container to replace it. I can’t remember if I water it once a month or once a week until it is sufficient (one year). Then it is self-sufficient unless there is a draught. No need to water it the expert told me. Any advice? Also, how do I protect it from goffers. We live in Texas.

You can gauge by the amount of rain you get as to when to water it. Young trees need about 1 inch of water a week till it is established. Wilting leaves are an indicator it needs water. Here is more on its care:
