Q.Gnat Problem Coming From Our Sunroom With Many Plants
Good morning! Since mid December, in NE Florida, we have had a gnat problem and the source seems to be coming from our sunroom which is where many plants are located. I have had these plants in this room for many years, but for some strange reason, this year we are having an infestation of ghats. We bought the KEVO bug sticky lights to attract and catch, but we really need help with a solution to get rid of them. I don’t want to put the plants outside because it has been so cold. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Those pesky gnats are common where houseplants are concerned. The best thing you can do is let the top 2 to 3 inches of soil in your plants dry before watering again. The gnats need moisture for their eggs and it will significantly cut down on their habitat. Since they fly, it is hard to spray for them, but if you want to spray the top of the soil with an insecticidal soap, it may help. Yellow sticky traps will help, too. If you notice them mostly on one particular plant, you can repot it to get rid of the eggs.
