Gladiolas

I have an inquiry from a citizen that I cannot answer. He has grown gladiolas for years. This year, many have grown 1 or 2 extra spikes. The extra spikes are smaller thanteh original one. He does not say whether they bloom. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

The corms will for smaller cormels that will just send up green shoots. Fertilize these to help them grow and store energy. They can then be divide after the Gladiola are lifted in the fall.
