Gladiolas

What do I do after the gladiolas bloom — cut them to ground or leave as they are? In our zone, which we can’t find the number, it never freezes so the bulbs are in the ground all year. We do thinning but only after some new plants start to appear.

If it does not freeze in your area, then the glads are fine staying in ground year round. As for what to do following blooming, you can cut back the flower stem but allow the leaves to remain and die back naturally. The plant gets its energy for next year’s blooms from the foliage.
