Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comThe ginkgo tree in my yard is abut 40 feet tall and produces a lot of leaves that lay on the lawn until gathered. I wait until most of the succulent leaves fall then I gather them. I noticed the lawn under my tree has died. I can easily roll the sod up with a rake. I suspect the toxicity of the leaves may be killing the lawn. Do you have any information about this?

These leaves don’t usually harm lawns unless it is excessively wet during the cold months. This can cause a fungal infection that will kill off the lawn. To be safe, I would rake them up as they fall. I would also recommend adding wettable sulfur around the area to kill off anything that could be infecting the soil.
