Q.Giant Himalayian Lilly bulbs?

Zone Germantown, MD, 20876, 7, micro 6 | Anonymous added on September 21, 2018 | Answered

I have a few Giant Himalayian plants in my garden. Started with one, now there is a group of them.

To thin them out I dug up two blubs (after plant went brown). The bulbs are not like anything I’ve seen before. They were huge, and had lots of leaf like “bulbs”. I wasn’t sure if each individulal leaf was a separate bulb or the whole cluster was one big bulb. Some of the leaf like bulbs fell off. In fear of killing the bulb, I planted it as one bulb.
The information on your web site does not say anything about the bulb or give a discription or instruction on propagating this beautiful plant.
I saw seed pods at end of summer full of “seeds” (?). Will these seeds grow new plants? Any special instructions on growing this plant from seed?

A search of the web gave me no information about this plant, just companies selling the bulbs.
You could enhance your site and be the only company on the block that provides detail instructions and tips for growing this plant.

Thank you,

You are right... Not very much is known about the plant. from the limited research I was able to do, it seems that the seeds are hard to germinate. This means the best way to replicate this plant is to take it's offshoots, which, you are correct again. Those bulblets are the next up and coming generation. I am going to see what all I can dig up on this species. I'd like to have some literature on the plant on this site.
